Buena Vista Optimist Club
The Buena Vista Optimist Club was chartered in 1974 and is an ALL volunteer organization made up of members who work each day to make the future brighter by bringing out the best in the kids in our community. The Collegiate Peaks Trail Run is one of the primary sources of revenue used to fund the programs supporting our youth in the Buena Vista Area. Other fundraisers include:
Mountain Mania Car Show
Annual Charity Golf Tournament
4th of July and Gold Rush Days Pancake Breakfasts
And donations
We invest funds raised in:
Scholarships to graduating seniors to assist in first year academic or vocational education
After school food assistance for less fortunate children and their families
Annual Kids Fishing Derby
Halloween Parade and Celebration
Numerous elementary, middle and high school programs such as STEM, music, theater, sports, etc.
Other ways we invest in our community include capital improvements such as the Kids Splash Park, Buena Vista River Park, Buena Vista Skate Park , as well as countless volunteer hours to the Town of Buena Vista in projects to support our youth such as Bike to School and playground construction to name a few. Our annual investments in youth exceed $30,000 and an additional $15,000 in capital improvements. The number of children impacted is almost immeasurable, but easily in the order of hundreds over the many years.
